The return of cooler weather is a massive relief to many of us, not just pale, freckled redheads like me, but so many who hate the heat because it meant that they would be forced to show more of their body.  There is a reason that the long summer dresses are so popular – they cover up the parts we don’t like. It’s no wonder we want to look good naked.

Sadly, many of us hate our bodies so much that we would literally never put on a swimsuit and frolic about at a beach, no matter how hot and lovely the weather was. We’re self-conscious, embarrassed and uncomfortable.  The pressure to be slender or to look a certain way is all over social media, and at the same time we are living in an ‘obesity epidemic’ so this is something a lot of people will be struggling with.

Consistently overeating, or sabotaging all your efforts to slim down and yo-yo dieting can also be a sign that your subconscious is running the show.  You might join a slimmer’s club full of enthusiasm and then find a million excuses not to go. You might take up cycling and do it for a while but your inner voice is saying you’re too tired, or too… whatever…to stick with it. You know what you should be doing but somehow can’t make yourself do it.

From the perspective of a hypnotherapist, I work with clients to uncover what is really going on in the subconscious mind. Diets don’t work because the mind is so uncomfortable with the concept of you ‘losing’ anything. Whether that be losing money, losing friends or losing weight. Your subconscious mind doesn’t want you to do that and it will try pretty hard to stop you .  You’ll notice feeling very hungry as soon as you decide to go on a diet. Literally, as soon as you even think of going on a diet.

Your subconscious mind is super powerful and you act without realising why, and then you will justify yourself later.

You see, our minds are always trying to help us, even when it seems like they are not. If you have a belief that you need to ‘be bigger’, that belief might have been formed when you were just a child, but it’s still there in the subconscious mind. It might have been as a result of bullying or childhood trauma, or something else.

And your mind will be working on the basis that you need to be bigger and taking that instruction literally and that is the message that you give yourself all the time, every time that there is a food decision (which is constantly all day and every day) your mind will think that it is helping you by making you choose things that will make you bigger. Just like you asked for.   Only, it doesn’t realise that now you are an adult and you’re now overweight and your health is suffering and actually this is not a helpful belief any more.

That’s what Rapid Transformation Therapy does, it transforms your subconscious thoughts, and brings them into alignment with what you want for yourself now.

Of course everyone has a different story, for some it’s emotional eating, they might have a belief that food is comfort and love, and remember their mother giving them delicious cake as a child, and be seeking that comfort as an adult. Comfort eating gives physical pleasure and that is sometimes what people want to have in their lives. However if that tips over into negatively affecting their health, and we all now know that obesity is a cause of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, all of a sudden the wish to seek comfort in food is a dangerous game to be playing.

Interestingly, when I ask clients whether they feel better after they have been eating comfort food, they don’t actually feel good. They often feel a whole lot worse.  Guilt, negative thoughts and remorse.  Not that comforting after all.

If you are baffled as to why your attempts to lose weight just don’t work, it might just be your subconscious mind sabotaging your best efforts.  Once you fix that, you’ll begin to love your body, nurture and look after it well and know that you are enough, whatever you look like, you’ll feel proud of your body.
