Being overweight increases a person’s risk for developing type 2 diabetes. A diagnosis of diabetes or pre-diabetes is often a real wake up call. The doctors start hammering home to you that you must lose weight. The brilliant news when it comes to type 2 diabetes is that, although there’s no cure, studies show it’s possible for some people to reverse it and turn things around by lifestyle changes.
After all, prevention is better than cure.
However, it might be easier said than done. You might be someone who has been on diets before and put the weight straight back on. Or maybe you feel that you do eat well but you just can’t lose the weight.
RTT can help, it’s super effective for weight loss and to eliminate cravings and sabotaging behaviour, so that you start being indifferent to the food that you shouldn’t be eating. This is basically the opposite to a diet where you’ll find you start obsessing about food the minute you go on a diet. I am totally opposed to faddy diets which really don’t work for the majority of people.
Our bodies respond to what our minds tell it. If you don’t believe me, just start imagining sucking a sour lemon and you’ll notice your mouth salivating in response.
Our thoughts control the physical reactions that our bodies have.
Our beliefs control the emotions that we have and the actions that we take as a consequence.
We are one mind-body system all connected together.
When you are wanting to lose weight, potentially a large amount of weight relatively quickly, you will need to be organised and work on several things at the same time. The first is to really get to the root of why you are holding onto the weight and the subconscious emotional purpose it has served in your life. RTT helps you understand why this is an issue in your life and re-frames your beliefs so that you are in the best possible position to release the weight. Once you know why your body is holding onto the weight, it becomes easy to release it.
The next thing is to start working with a qualified nutritionist. This is because they will be able to tailor an eating plan with you, and train you to make the healthiest choices for you. We are often baffled at why weight is being gained, and a good nutritionist will be invaluable to help you install new habits. You will need to learn what foods are your friends and which are your enemies.
Third thing, you must tell your friends and family what you are doing and why. Support network and community is vital for success when you are making a lifestyle change which will probably impact on them too. It will be important that you make a public commitment to this and so that they can support you.
You must set a clear, definable goal, so that you are specific about what you are aiming at. So if that is to lose a stone or a dress size in 8 weeks, say so, write it down and focus on it, so that you are telling your mind what you want it to do.
The next is to consistently, every day ideally, visualise yourself being slender, strong, fit, flexible and happy. You love the new body you are creating, you delight in visualising your trousers being too loose, having to use a tighter belt buckle for example or the shop assistant having to go back and bring that dress in a smaller size. Sure, it might feel like a lie, right now, but trust me, it doesn’t matter.
By telling yourself this and visualising yourself as super healthy and happy, and with a strong, slender physique, you will be training your mind to control your body and to make this the truth for you. Your mind does what it thinks you want it to.
